The Single Rarest New Orleans Quarter Eagle. Widely known as the most elusive O Mint $2.5 even rarer than most Charlotte and Dahlonega $2.5, Paradime Coins is pleased to offer a spectacular high grade original example for this near impossible issue. No official mintage in the Mint Report exist for this 1845-O $2.5 with the date only known until an announcement in the December 1894 Numismatist. This Premium Choice AU example shows attractive light orange gold hues with substantial amount of luster for the grade. The strike is full and the denticles all present both two features never seen. Furthermore, it is also impossible to find with unmolested surfaces, given according to Doug Winter "...This is primarily due to the fact that most have been cleaned at one time." Another character adding feature is that all 1845-O $2.5 have a mint-made depression on the reverse between the eagles neck and F in OF as a foreign object entered the press during the striking process. As such this coin has a lot going on for it, it is the Single Rarest New Orleans $2.5, it has the smallest mintage for a New Orleans and almost all other C and D mint issues at only 4,000, the number of survivors in all grades amount to only 75, the strike and denticles is full, the luster is abundant and surface is surprisingly mark free and very attractive for the grade, and there has been no sale in either AU53 or AU55 PCGS for over a decade, except a CAC AU55 that sold two years ago for $19,200. Here is an important chance to acquire a PCGS example with lustrous and eye appealing original surface.
