Struck during a decade when federal gold coinage remained relatively limited, the 1845 Liberty Head quarter eagle had a mintage of 91,051 pieces and is surprisingly scarce with only 300 estimated in all grades. This attractive 1845 $2.50 MS62 PCGS CAC is an important survivor with proof-like surface, yellow-gold highlights with deeper green-gold undertones. The strike is uncommonly sharp for the type and the obverse almost looks like a one sided proof. Although the 1845 is among the more obtainable quarter eagles of the 1840s in an absolute sense, Mint State survivors remain rare. The PCGS Price Guide is $4,500 with the most recent CAC-approved MS62 example realizing $4,320 10/21 HA almost 4 years ago with no cac sale since then.
