1844-O $5 AU55 PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Half Eagle
No Motto 1844-O New Orleans Half Eagle. Approximately 550 examples exist today in all grades for this important rare $5. Despite being one of the more available dates relatively speaking it remains a scarce and desirable coin in higher grades due to collector demand. Premium AU examples, particularly CAC-endorsed pieces like this, are uncommon and command a significant premium. Two most recent AU55 PCGS CAC sold for $3,360 06/24 ST & $3,480 03/24 SB AU55 PCGS CAC. The obverse displays a rich gold tone, characteristic of well-preserved 19th-century gold coinage. The even luster creates a uniform glow across the surface, enhancing its visual appeal. The coin is sharply struck and void of significant hits or mark. The 1844-O is an excellent candidate for collectors building a type set or focusing on Southern Mint gold.
