The California Gold Rush in the late 1840s led to increased silver prices due to the supply of gold. This resulted to hoarding, export, and melting of U.S silver coins until the Coinage Act of 1853. The 1844 Liberty Seated Dime being part of such events not only makes it one of the most popular dates of the series, but also a key date. It derives from a mintage of 72,500 with only 1,000 survivors estimated today. The current specimen is an attractive piece with some blue highlights of iceberg and sky blue toning along with marigold and light lemon yellow color that is vividly visible under the light. It boasts a crusty look that adds to its already wonderful eye appeal. The last XF40 PCGS CAC sold for $1,080 08/21 ST. This is a perfect XF40.
