Rare CAC Approved 1843-O $10 PCGS MS61 ex Bass Collection. A CAC POP 2 and we believe finest at that with only 2 PCGS examples certified finer. Clearly a condition census and one of the finest. 1843-O $10 is available until AU53, any finer and this becomes tough to find. In Uncirculated, PCGS estimates 6 examples known whilst some experts believe 7-9, with the finest belonging to the Tyrant collection graded MS64 coin(once graded MS62 by PCGS), while the second finest Admiral Collection graded NGC MS63 (which was once in an NGC MS62 CAC holder) Having examined the Admiral NGC MS63, we no-doubt believe that to be slightly over-graded and should have been an NGC MS62, which just sold 07/2022 HA for $63,000 after being processed and stripped of its originality, note when it was a NGC62 CAC it had full of copper spots and was not eye appealing. Thus the NGC MS62 CAC Admiral collection POP needs to be updated and removed, making this a CAC POP 2/0 Tied for Finest.

In comparison, whilst the Admiral Collection coin technically superior, the present example is notable for a very sharp strike, featuring attractive natural rich orange-gold color on both sides. The reverse is mark-free and choice.

The fields are semi-reflective and original. There is absolutely no sign of past cleaning or dipping as can be seen by some remnants still there on the reverse. We believe that this coin will end up in a 62 or finer holder, not to mention being in an older holder slabbed between 1998-2002, we feel confident in calling this coin extremely choice for the grade. Did we also mention this has the Bass Pedigree which can be traced to the fabulous  Grant Pierce Collection of 1965!

As a MS61 PCGS CAC, there are no CAC comps. A non-CAC PCGS MS61 brought $42,000 as Fairmont/”Hendricks” in April 2022. Another comp, a beat-up NGC MS62-also NON-CAC sold for $40,800. Neither of which was CAC nor choice nor posses the Bass pedigree nor encapsulated in an older holder. PCGS suggest a price guide of $45,000 whilst CAC $46,100 both based off the NON-CAC $42,000 sale in April 2022. This coin is considerably more choice and rare.

This is a true condition rarity and with just three Uncirculated 1843-O eagles having been approved by CAC in UNC, though actually only 2, the opportunity to own a Condition Census 1843-O eagle is something not to be taken lightly by the advanced collector of New Orleans gold.
