1843-D $5 SMALL D MS61 PCGS CAC

Offered is the second finest 1843-D $5 Variety 9-F (Small) Half Eagle. While the large mintmark is not as rare, the small mintmark variety is incredibly tough with just two or three unique examples that exist in uncirculated condition out of an estimated 100 known in all grades. While all Dahlonega uncirculated $5 are very rare, there has not been a sale of this example in unc grade in the past decade. This sharply detailed piece is brightly lustrous with pale green-gold on both sides and has the attributed die rust on the obverse as all known 1843-D $5 do. A rarity in all grades and one of the finest with only 1 known finer, a ms62 tightly locked in a collection with the last MS61 having sold 10 years.
