1843-D $5 SMALL D AU58 PCGS CAC

Dahlonega $5 1843 comes in two types, Small & Medium D. Small D is 4 times rarer than its counterpart with only 100 known in all grades. Most 1843-D $5 were circulated and thus finding examples in AU or finer are incredibly tough and rare. This present example has attractive medium gold hues and is a CAC Pop 2 with only 1 finer which we sold into the Hansen Collection. No auction record exists for an AU58 PCGS much less a CAC example. PCGS Price Guide $12,500 and CAC Value $14,400. AU55 PCGS CAC has just sold at Fairmont for $7,800 08/22 and a non-cac processed C quality au58 PCGS sold at SB 08/22 for $10,800. This is the finest 1843-D $5 CAC left and is absolutely original. Destined for a great set.
