With only 125 survivors known today in all grades, 1843 $2.5 is rare in AU and finer, with the finest graded MS64. No CAC examples are approved at MS63 and only 1 is approved at MS64, which is tied up in a top collection. At MS63, this 1843 $2.5 is a PCGS POP 2, and clearly one of the finest firmly situated in the Condition Census. Commanding a PCGS Price Guide of $11,000 with the last sale 33 years ago in 1990 for $11,550! With the only relevant comp a less lustrous NGC MS64 for $12,000 01/22 which the same example is now being offered at $24,750, before that sale it sold in 2004.
