Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
1843 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. Mintage 100,546 of which only 125 are estimated today in all grades. Despite a relatively high original mintage, the 1843 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is considered the rarest of the 1843-dated Quarter Eagles, surpassing even the more sought-after branch mint issues from Charlotte (1843-C) and Dahlonega (1843-D) in terms of rarity. Mint State examples are exceptionally scarce, with only maybe 2 dozen. The finest known example is graded MS-64, though this present conditional census example is one of the finest approved by CAC with only 3 finer. No mint state CAC example has sold except the finest MS64 nearly a decade ago.
The coin displays a vibrant, rich golden hue characteristic of mid-19th-century U.S. gold coinage. The intricately detailed quarter eagle remain sharp. Its rich, satiny yellow-gold luster is paired with minimal abrasions for its grade, making it a highly desirable piece for advanced collectors. Price Guide $4,000 and CAC Guide $3,750
