Liberty Head Eagle
1843 Philly mint Eagles have a mintage of 75,462 pieces, but only 175 are estimated today in all grades and as such are considered incredibly rare due to the low number of survivors. High grade specimens are virtually nonexistent for this 1843 $10, as the majority are graded VF. AU level is incredibly scarce and finer only two uncirculated pieces are known. Interestingly, it is still substantially less expensive than the 1842-O and 1843-O, despite higher number of survivors for the surrounding O-Mint Eagles. This is an original example with high quality surface, crustry-look and with original color that truly has no issue, and is only held back from CAC because of one hit in the obverse field that is consistent with the grade. Two comparable auction record exists in the past 5 years 08/23 ST $2,280 for a CAC and $2,424 08/22 HA non-CAC. Next grade up in AU50 PCGS will cost $3,240 11/23 ST or for an AU53 $4,040 03/23 ST for CAC examples. We believe these are incredibly undervalued, and thanks to Fairmont a few have surfaced shedding new light to this other undervalued issue. This coin represents a lot of bang for buck under $2,000 in our opinion.
