Some dates are special, but all 1842-O pieces are very rare. From an original mintage of just 16,400 there are an estimated survival of just 60 known pieces in all grades. A survival rate of 0.365%. 1842-O $5 is the second rarest after 1847-O $5, but was heavily circulated hence the low survival rate. If that doesn’t speak volumes then in comps since 1999 in any pcgs grade higher than xf45 there have just been 2 sales in the past 21 years - one in au50 for $8,813 and one in au53 all the way back in 2003.
