1842-O 25C LARGE DATE MS61 PCGS CAC

The 1842-O Liberty Seated Quarter, Large Date, is a challenging New Orleans issue in true Mint State, with only an estimated 600 pieces surviving and very few showing the combination of originality, surface integrity, and remaining luster offered here. Most examples of this date and mint are seen with significant handling, soft strikes, or dulled surfaces, making this certified Mint State and CAC-approved example an appealing exception. There are only 3 CAC examples in Mint State and this coin displays fully original surfaces with a natural medium silver-gray foundation accented by deeper antique gray and scattered darker speckling that contributes to its untouched appearance. A satiny luster remains active under angled light, showing gentle but discernible cartwheel movement across both sides despite light contact marks appropriate for the MS61 designation. The strike is stronger than typically encountered for the issue. With no CAC approved examples recorded in MS61 or any grade higher, and reference values of $2,750 in the PCGS price guide and $2,600 in the CAC guide this coin represents a scarce certified opportunity for specialists pursuing an original Mint State representative of a tough early New Orleans Seated quarter.
