1842 $1 AU55 NGC

This 1842 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar, certified NGC AU55, is a richly original survivor from an early era of U.S. silver dollar production, representing the Type 3 “No Motto” reverse design. Struck from a mintage of 184,618 pieces, it is one of an estimated 4,000 survivors across all grades, and far scarcer in high-end circulated condition with this level of eye appeal. The obverse features vibrant concentric peripheral toning, with Liberty’s frosty silver-gold portrait set against a canvas of champagne-bronze, olive, and cobalt-blue around the stars and denticles. The strike is boldly executed, with sharply defined devices. Whilst the reverse offers smooth silver-gray fields over gold hues. No relevant comps exist for toned examples, except a 1842 $1 AU58 NGC $2,880 11/24 HA, which the toning was clearly inferior. We also sold a similar 1846 $1 AU55 PCGS. last year for more given the market demand today is stronger than last year for Seated Dollars.
