1840-(O) MD LT 50C G04 NGC CAC

One of our favorite coins, 1840 (O) 50C MEDIUM LETTERS REV 1838 G04 NGC CAC, is a very interesting coin. With the obverse die of a seated liberty half and a reverse die of a New Orleans 1838 Capped Bust Half Dollar, this intriguing example was struck and is known among true numismatist. Approximately 400 exist today in all grades and condition, with the present example a CAC Pop 1, NGC Pop 2 and PCGS Pop 1. Just honest wear and steel-grey patina engulfs this coin and with a VG10 NGC CAC sale at $780 03/22 HA and a VG08 NGC non cac at $776 01/14 HA, no G04 has ever sold. PCGS reports a PCGS Price Guide of $400 with values climbing steeply at higher circulated grades. We believe this to be a great buy for the amount of history packed into this example.
