This PCGS 1840-O No Drapery Quarter was minted in New Orleans before the design was updated to include additional drapery folds below Miss Liberty’s right elbow. This early New Orleans issue is part of a short three-year type coin series, notable for its limited mintage of only 382,200. With a survival estimate of approximately 900 pieces. This scarcity is further emphasized by the lack of recent CAC sales in PCGS grades since 2016, underscoring the rarity of well-preserved examples on the market.

An untoned XF45 NGC CAC example of this date recently sold for $840 06/23 ST. This is a very attractive coin exuding originality. The remarkably well-preserved surfaces display natural tones of chartreuse yellow, orange, cobalt blue, and steel gray, highlighting the coin’s originality. Collectors seeking an attractive, original coin from this elusive type series will appreciate the enduring appeal of this piece, especially given its scarcity and historical significance in early U.S. coinage.
