1840-D $5 TALL D MS61 PCGS
1840-D $5 TALL D MS61 PCGS
Liberty Head Half Eagle
First Dahlonega $5 issue for the type, 1840-D $5 is an incredibly rare issue with ONLY 6 estimated in UNC from 140 known in all grades. A Condition Census example, this original MS61 PCGS mint state example with a PCGS Price Guide of $35,000, comes with natural russet color over lustrous surface is fully struck with nice radial lines over sharply struck devices. The quality and eye appeal on this D-Mint Unc $5 is superb. All $5 Dahlonega are rare, but because it was the first issue for the type, and the first $5 with mintmark on the reverse, this coin has fewer number of survivors and thus obtaining examples in high grade is very rare. At MS61 and finer in the past two decades there has been only 1 PCGS sale which was 04/22 SB from the Fairmont Collection-Hendricks Set for a MS61 PCGS CAC example for $32,400. With none finer than MS62 and NO CAC approved MS62, you will have to wait another decade before acquiring a finer, original and more lustrous example than this.
