This present specimen is the first year of the new type design of the Liberty Head half eagle series. It is an important type coin that is rarer in all grades than any previous type coins issued from the Philadelphia Mint except the 1834 Crosslet 4. The 1839 Liberty Head Half Eagle has a total mintage of 118,143 with only as few as 200 examples existing in total. High grade specimens from AU to uncirculated ones are very rare. This piece bearing the grade of an AU58 along with the CAC endorsement has no marks of except a small reeded mark on the cheek for identification purpose. The strike is sharp and details well-preserved with a smooth lustrous surface. A piece that would be a great addition into a nice type collection. CAC Guide $8,500 and PCGS $8,750.
