1839 25C NO DRAPERY MS63 PCGS CAC

The 1839 No Drapery Liberty Seated Quarter is a notably difficult issue to obtain in Mint State, with examples graded MS63 or finer proving especially elusive, and this coin represents a distinctly high-end survivor for the type, from an estimated population of roughly 1,200 pieces across all grades. The surfaces are richly original and visually compelling, displaying deep blue-green toning over well-preserved, satiny luster, accented by subtle amber, honey-gold, and soft golden-lilac hues that shift with the light. On the obverse, luminous steel-blue to slate-blue color dominates the fields around Liberty, with pale aqua and soft cyan. The reverse retains the blue-gray foundation but introduces warmer tones, with dusty blue, pale teal, and soft gray fields overlaid by amber-gold. Market data underscores the strength of the issue with no MS63 PCGS CAC having sold; however, a CAC-approved MS64 example brought $16,200 01/24 HA.
