Classic Head Quarter Eagle

Struck during a sharp contraction in federal gold coinage, the 1837 Classic Head quarter eagle saw production fall to just 45,080 pieces—less than one-tenth the prior year’s output—likely influenced by disruptions in Southern gold shipments and anticipation of the branch mints opening in 1838. Regardless, long-standing research confirms the date is infrequently encountered today, with Mint State survivors scarce and typically confined to the lower Uncirculated levels, and an estimated surviving population of roughly 300 examples across all grades! This coin stands out as an exceptionally strong representative, distinguished by notably prooflike fields and die striations over sharply executed strike that brings full definition to the Classic Head design with the added benifit of being a HM-1 (R.3). Both obverse and reverse display a richly original gold appearance anchored by a deep golden-yellow to honey-gold base. There have been only 2 CAC MS62 in the past 17 years - one in 2009 and a NGC MS62 CAC for $9,000 08/24 HA. With a CAC Pop of just 3 and 3 finer ( one in 63, 64 and 65) rest assured this is a genuine rarity.
