The 1837 Large Cent, Plain Cords with Medium Letters graded PCGS MS65 Brown and approved by CAC, represents the unified early and late die states of a single die marriage, identifiable on all known examples by the distinctive die crack running through STATES OF on the reverse. This Gem survivor presents a cohesive and attractive appearance across both sides, with smooth chocolate-brown surfaces animated by vibrant cartwheel luster and faint but traces of original red preserved in protected recesses that perhaps warrants a RB designation. With an estimated 3,000 survivors in all grades but few at GEM and this example distinguishes itself through its technical quality and eye appeal. This coin last traded over 4 years ago for $2,640 01/22 HA and then $2,880 09/22 EAC; however, a more recent auction comp was for another equally choice MS65 PCGS CAC that sold for $3,544 07/25 GC. Considering the last 3 MS65+ PCGS CAC have sold for $4,113-$6,463 with this example showcasing truly no hits or marks worth mentioning, we find this a great purchase.
