The Classic Head Quarter Eagle along with its fellow Half Eagle were the first gold coins to be widely circulated after the Coinage Act of 1834, which led to the prevention of US gold coins being melted overseas at Europe due to the fact that the act led to changes of the weight of the coin, making the coins be sold at a more expensive price overseas.

This particular 1836 Classic Head Quarter Eagle example is most notably housed in an old NGC “Fatty Soap Box” holder, has a mintage of 547,986 with a current survival estimate of just 1,250 and is a CAC POP of 1. Unlike other examples, this specimen exhibits stunningly original surfaces that are truly authentic, which sets it apart from other similarly graded coins. It also possesses eye-catching luster making it CAC approved for quality. Despite its extravagant features, we speculate this current example to be undergraded and would be comparable to an MS61 or higher by today’s standard. Take a look at its exceptional soft ruby red color along with the glowing gold patina. It boasts cartwheel-like luster unseen for the grade. This coin sold 5 years ago, but since then a MS61 PCGS example non-CAC that clearly has some bang-marks sold for $3,720., whilst a AU58 PCGS CAC for $3,840 08/22 ST.
