The 1836 Block 8 Classic Head quarter eagle is a premium Mint State survivor from this short-lived and historically important gold series, with an estimated surviving population of approximately 475 examples across all grades. Although the 1836 date is among the more frequently encountered issues of the 1834–1839 Classic Head quarter eagle series, fully original Mint State coins remain decidedly difficult to locate, making this offering particularly noteworthy for advanced gold type collectors. The coin displays rich, frosty luster that blankets both sides and imparts a satiny, softly radiant appearance, complemented by an appealing light olive-gold coloration that is especially attractive for the type. The surfaces present a medium yellow-gold base that extends evenly across the fields and devices. Overall this coin in our opinion looks like a MS62 with booming luster and when comparing to the other MS61 CAC. CAC has approved just four pieces in this grade with 24 examples approved across all higher grades. CAC Price Guide $4,600.
