1835 $5 MS64+ PCGS CAC EX POGUE

The Single Finest 1835 Classic Head Half Eagle HM-8 ( R.3+) is a superbly preserved near-Gem that combines exceptional technical quality with important pedigree and variety significance. The surfaces are frosty and boldly lustrous, exhibiting an even yellow to medium honey-gold coloration that yields cool, steely highlights. The coin is sharply struck throughout with minimal marks. Gems have not been recorded by the major third-party grading services, and only few have even reached MS-64 level. In fact for the variety in Daryl J. Haynor’s 2020 census it was described as “MS64+/A-,” when it was graded MS64 PCGS CAC selling for $90,000 in 2020 for what we believe is a MS64+ PCGS CAC price. Today the coin is indeed certified as such and now the single finest with a PCGS Price Guide of $90,000 for the type and variety at $105,000. Having been both part of the Pogue Collection and the Daryl J. Haynor Virginian Collection we do not see a better combination of pedigree for this coin.
