The year 1834 was a troublesome time for the United States economy. U.S. gold coins were largely melted down for profit overseas over the face value, leading to the Coinage Act of 1834. The Classic Head Quarter Eagle is known to be one of the first widely circulated gold coins in U.S history. In recent years, these have become increasingly popular and in demand in the market showcasing some strong bids to acquire them. This particular example is barely seen with any wear and is an important date as the first issue for the series. We have seen worse examples in MS61 or MS62 by other TPGs. This piece has a CACG Pop of only 3 and 1 finer. No AU58 CAC comps are noted; however a lower grade AU55 PCGS CAC sold recently for $3,120 08/22 ST, and more recently a MS61 PCGS CAC for $4,320 08/23 ST.
