After replacing the Draped Bust Dime, the Capped Bust Dime was a new design issued from 1809 to 1837 before being succeeded by the Seated Liberty design. The 1828 specimen has two varieties widely known as the Large Date and the Small Date. The Large Date Dime is considered considerably rarer than the Small Date Dime, with only 200 estimated in all grades.

This 1828 better date specimen is a gem AU with its AU58+ grade. A Pop 1 in both PCGS and CAC with only 3 finer speaks for itself as what a prime example is for an exceptionally rare coin. It boasts outstanding eye appeal highlighting some sensational borderline toning on both sides of the coin. The obverse exhibit arctic and azure blue with hints of cadmium green and light canary yellow that transitions into sunset orange silver towards the center. The reverse display similar borderline tones as the obverse, but transitions into copper red-brown center. No CAC in any grade has sold except for a MS64+ PCGS CAC from the Bender Collection for $49,200 01/23 HA. A decorated pedigree to boot and a beautiful super slider that would be a great addition to any collection.
