Originating from a mere 2,800 mintages, the 1827 Capped Bust Quarter Eagle is a very rare issue with only around 50 examples known to remain today. In fact, the entire Large Diameter Capped Bust Quarter Eagle series produced from 1821 to 1827 are all rare as only a handful are found in circulated grades such as this example.

This current specimen is well-preserved and we most certainly see this coin to be undergraded and should be at least AU50 in our opinion. Both sides of the coin boast clean surfaces which are found with no real hits or marks. The strike is weak at the center as it is typically for all examples, but sharp enough to clearly see all the details.

No relevant comp of a graded 1827 quarter eagle are seen as this is the lowest graded example, a pop 1 at PCGS, pop 1 at CAC and one of six examples, including this one, for the entire date endorsed by CAC. A great piece that would be a useful addition to a nice early gold type set.
