The 1827 Capped Bust Dime, Pointed Top 1, JR-6 (R.2), graded AU55 Prooflike by ANACS in an Old "Soapbox" Fatty Holder, presents an extraordinary blend of vibrant toning, reflective surfaces, and strong eye appeal for the issue. The obverse glows with a golden-amber center that transitions into apricot and honey-gold, framed by a ring of cobalt-blue, violet, and ruby highlights, interlaced with burnt-orange and rose accents near the rims. Liberty’s portrait is surrounded by these iridescent hues, with frosted devices standing out against mirrored fields—a hallmark of the prooflike designation. The reverse features a lustrous golden-silver core that radiates outward into layers of electric blue, amethyst, fiery magenta, and touches of jade-green. The eagle’s sharply defined feathers and shield are set against fields that exhibit cartwheel reflectivity, while a rainbow-like halo of scarlet, indigo, and gold frames the periphery. This particular example, with its silky texture, dramatic toning, and reflective quality, stands as an exceptional representative of early U.S. dime coinage. Previously sold over 2 years ago for $2,280 01/23 HA, this coin offers both technical merit and captivating visual appeal that places it well above typical AU survivors.
