This highly sought-after variety stands out as the rarest among the 1820 Capped Bust Half Dollar Overton varieties. The O-107 variety is distinguished by defective letter punches on the letters A and E in the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" on the coin. Specifically, each letter A lacks its right lower serif, and each letter E is missing the left side serif. Recognized as a notable Red Book variety, examples of this type are typically tightly held in collections and seldom become available for sale. Despite being rated as a rarity of 5 according to Overton, there are only approximately 63 known examples, with most in lower grades. Notably, this variety represents the sole die marriage within its category. With an NGC population of just 1 and 5 finer, and a PCGS count of 2 with 10 finer, this underscores its exceptional rarity.

This NGC graded Capped Bust Half Dollar displays a subtle steel-grey toning, sought after for its circulated cameo appearance. The moderate circulation has resulted in wear with some hints of old wipe, yet the coin remains free from any significant marks. Locating another example of similar rarity and grade would likely prove to be a challenging task.

Greysheet bid is $7,500 and we feel the TPG price guides are currently low. NGC has no sale at XF40 and higher. A PCGS XF40 non-CAC sold for $14,400 12/21 HA, and as such this is priced attractively.
