1818 1C MS64 BN PCGS CAC

This 1818 Classic Head Large Cent, graded PCGS MS64 BN, is an exceptional high-end Mint State example from a series where true originality, smooth surfaces, and balanced color are rarely encountered together. The coin presents an attractive chocolate-brown body color with layered tone ranging from soft olive and warm walnut to mahogany and chestnut undertones. Under angled light, subtle remnants of faded mint red appear in the most protected recesses—around the stars, lettering, lower hair curls, and portions of the wreath—providing a refined glow that confirms its originality and its Mint State status. The fields display soft cartwheel luster that activates gently when rotated, rather than a bold flash, reflecting authentic copper preservation rather than enhancement. Both sides are exceptionally clean for the issue which we think make this coin nicer than the MS64 grade suggested and perhaps worthy of a RB (Red Brown) designation. An 1818 1C MS64 BN PCGS CAC sold last year for $1,744 05/25 GC which was completely dark though also choice. With some Red, PQ surface and better date comp, we see this representing excellent value.
