1807 50C LARGE STARS AU53 PCGS CAC
Capped Bust Half Dollar
First year Capped Bust Half Dollar, in 1807, John Reich introduced a new design for the Half Dollar, which came in two varieties: Large Stars and Small Stars. The Large Stars variety is approximately five times rarer than the Small Stars version, according to PCGS. No doubt a must have for all Bust Half Nut collectors and type collectors. We are pleased to offer a conditional rarity 1807 50c. A remarkable survivor of the first year of the date in what we call GEM AU. PCGS Condition Census begins at AU58 and the issue is remarkably difficult to find CAC-approved specimens higher than XF. With approximately 500 in estimated across all grades, the present example is a Rarity 3, O-114, which is recognized by the small die lumps below the 7. No comps or sale are noted except for an NGC AU53 CAC that sold 12 years ago. Since then an AU55 PCGS GOLD CAC sold for for $18,800. The unique point of this present example is the surface of this example. As all Capped Bust Half collectors and aficionadoes know, this coin's surface is one of the most original seen. This is how they came stored perfectly in an envelope. The surface has NOT been molested through modern dipping, and frankly if it did we believe would grade much higher.
