A perfect type coin and one of the most popular dates in the Heraldic Quarter Eagle series. 1807 $2.5 from a minuscule mintage 6,812, only 262 survivors are known today. Incredibly rare and pricey, the entire Heraldic Quarter Eagle series has long been sought after by collectors, and we are pleased to offer a CAC approved AU example. The last issue of the series, there are only few examples that have been CAC approved as most were either dipped or show extensive bag marks. The present example displays one of the most attractive patina we have seen on any AU Heraldic Quarter Eagle. With orange and tan gold hues, the eye appeal is perfect. Virtually no bag marks and no chatter what so ever. Truthfully, we think it is slightly under-graded. Next grade AU55 PCGS CAC last sale was a year ago for $26,400 which is now on the market at $33,750. Comparing the AU55 PCGS CAC we see clear weakness on the reverse shield and scattered bag marks throughout. Safe to say we prefer this example.
