Draped Bust Half Eagle
Draped Bust Half Heraldic Eagles have become almost impossible to find in recent years. In 1806, two types of $5 were struck, Knobbed 6 ( also known as Round 6 or Knob 6), and Pointed 6. Approximately 800 are known to exist in all grades for the Knobbed or Round 6 type. Thanks to recent increase in CAC bid for choice examples, most CAC examples are near impossible to find, as other saw extensive dipping or show cleaned surfaces. The present example retains significant original luster as can be readily seen even through the image in the recessed areas. The obverse is completely mark-free and void of any major hits or nicks. Furthermore, on the high points there is an attractive deep gold hue on the wear. The strike is a slightly weak but this is as they come. Both sides are blemish free, and the skin or surface mixed with the color of this coin screams WOW. One grade lower and in NGC, an AU55 NGC CAC sold last year for $16,800 02/22 HA which had some hints of hairlines, whilst the last PCGS AU58 CAC more aptly sold for $20,251 01/22 DL though a few pin scratch are noted.
