O-112a. R.2 Draped Bust 1805 Half Dollars are rare in AU and finer. With a total of only 9 Mint State examples certified, collectors have no chance but to collect AU. This important near condition census example is a CAC POP 1 with only 5 CAC examples finer.
Lustrous Iridescent eclectic-blue, sunflower-orange, and a variety of color encircle each side in concentric bands. Both the obverse and reverse are sharply struck save for star 1-3, as commonly seen. Strong luster hugs to both sides despite attractive and bright toning. As if this coin did not need more, CAC certified examples are incredibly tough on early silver especially circulated toned example.
Only 1 CAC comp has sold at AU55 which was for $19,200 02/18 HA, also a toned example. At 2 grades lower AU50 CAC another attractively toned example sold for $7,638 05/16 HA. No AU58 CAC has sold for over a decade! And this is one anyone would want to own.
