Draped Bust Dime
This 1805 Draped Bust Dime, attributed to the rare JR-1, R.4 "5 Berries" reverse variety, is certified VF20 by PCGS and verified by CAC—confirming its originality, eye appeal, and premium status for the assigned grade. The 1805 issue marks the final year of the Draped Bust dime series with the Heraldic Eagle reverse, and among its varieties, the 5 Berries subtype is notably more elusive. On this die marriage, five berries are distinctly visible on the reverse branch to the eagle's right (viewer’s left), a key diagnostic feature prized by specialists. The coin presents in rich, original VF condition with naturally aged surfaces that show no signs of cleaning or tampering. The coin showscases antique silver, with deeper tones of cobalt through out which pops in hand. With only 75 estimated in all grades for the 5 Berries, we are pleased to say this coin is extremely undervalued. With only three coins graded VF20 at PCGS and just one receiving CAC approval across all VF levels, this example ranks among the finest obtainable for collectors targeting originality over raw numerical grade. With a CAC’s Price Guide at $3,350 and no CAC example has sold in recent years except in AU55, one would be hard pressed to find a more affordable or more attractive piece.
