Introduction of the Draped Bust following the U.S Mint's intention to present a more cultivated image of American coinage. The small eagle was replaced by the heraldic eagle and the motto "E Pluribus Unum," signifying unity and national identity was added. Many gold coins minted before 1834 were melted and only a few have managed to survive.

Originating from a mintage of just 53,176 pieces and with a current survival rate of 0.846% leading to only 450 survivors, this piece is an extremely popular early Half Eagle Draped Bust. This 1802/1 overdate specimen boasts a beautiful cartwheel luster emitting butterscotch and orange gold color. A well struck coin that has outstanding eye appeal for the grade and looks much better than one would expect.

This wonderful piece has a PCGS Pop of 29 with only 294 at a finer state. A similar example in the same grade sold for $9,000 02/24 HA. Do not miss your chance on a unique oppotunity to own a piece of American history as it will not only fit a well-curated collection, but also bring deep personal satisfaction.
