A O-101 (R.3) A historically important early half dollar issue, representing the denomination’s return after a four-year hiatus and the first use of the Heraldic Eagle reverse, this example presents an especially appealing, original look for the grade with a pleasing blend of natural silver-gray surfaces framed by vivid peripheral toning in shades of cobalt blue, amber-gold, and soft violet that encircle both sides. The colorful toning band enhances the visual contrast and adds depth to the design, giving the coin a level of eye appeal not often encountered at the VG level - infact we firmly believe it is under-graded. With a remarkably low mintage of just 30,289 pieces and an estimated survival of approximately 600 examples, this issue remains highly desirable to collectors today. And with a CAC population of just 5 approved examples in this grade range, this piece offers strong technical merit and visual appeal, making it an outstanding acquisition for advanced type collectors and early half dollar specialists. The only relevant comp is a F15 PCGS CAC for $4,080 05/24 HA, which was not toned at all.
