Absolutely fresh to the market, this recently graded PCGS 1800 $10 Draped Bust Type 2 MS61 is a true gem. Draped Bust gold coins in mint state with premium surfaces are exceedingly rare finds. The attraction of early U.S. coinage, reflecting the origins of the American commerce system, is indisputable and commands significant interest. This date is considerably rarer than the five common dates 1795, 1797, 1799, 1801, & 1803. Looking at extant examples for all dates the 1800 stands out. From a mintage of only 6,000 just 250 are estimated to survive. The PCGS population is only 4 with 6 finer. This is the chance for an astute collector to acquire a high-end type coin.

Presenting the sought-after design type from the earliest years of U.S. Mint coinage, this gold coin boasts remarkable Mint State preservation. Its design elements are crisply and comprehensively depicted. Both sides are adorned with an attractive, entirely original bright golden-orange color, enveloping the coin, and enriching its visual allure. In hand the coin exhibits captivating reddish-gold hues on each side, heightened by a glowing luster encircling the devices. Notably, both Liberty's portrait and the eagle's breast feathers showcase finely detailed features. However, what truly distinguishes this coin in terms of aesthetics is the unquestionable authenticity of its surfaces.

The 1800 eagle is prized by early gold variety enthusiasts due to a remarriage of its only known die pairing, likely occurring in 1801 after the Mint swiftly reverted to the 1800-dated obverse die following a failed replacement. This remarriage is evidenced by the presence of dentil clash on the reverse along the top of the letters STAT in STATES, suggesting that most surviving 1800-dated eagles were struck in 1801.

Last PCGS CAC sold for $52,800 03/24 ST, which then sold for $57,500 later. Another recent PCGS CAC sold for $50,400 02/23 HA.  This example has no hits or marks like the previously sold ones, we could easily see this in a MS62 holder in the future.
