As Q. David Bowers writes in his United States Silver Dollar 1794-1804 publication, BB-155 (R.5) is one of the key varieties for the year, with an estimated 70-110 in all grades. This 1799 Draped Bust Silver Dollar Heraldic Eagle example is graded VF35 by PCGS and approved by CAC. According to the PCGS Price Guide, this grade level is valued at $4,500, while the CAC Price Guide lists it at $4,550 which is consistent with the last CAC sale for a NGC VF35 PCGS CAC and a R.3 with no hints of color or rarity for $4,400 01/24 HA. This 1799 $1 BB-155 VF35 PCGS CAC coin features a soft pewter-silver surface with gentle champagne-gold and olive-bronze highlights. The obverse shows Liberty with clear central details and subtle color tones, while the reverse displays a blend of silver-gray and bronze with golden accents. Both sides have smooth, satiny fields with minor marks and a soft luster, preserving the coin’s fine details and overall eye appeal. Overall, the coin exhibits a well-preserved, naturally toned surface and visual character consistent with long-term, careful stewardship, mixed with some color and a highly desired BB-155 (R.5) for keep sake combined with CAC approval makes this an ideal selection for advanced collectors of early U.S. silver dollars. Most importantly you are getting a Draped Bust Dollar CAC VF35 with some color and a Rarity 5 practically for free.
