An old friend, the 1797 Draped Bust Dollar (BB-71, B-3, 10x6 Stars, Large Letters) is a remarkable example sought after due to its distinctive star arrangement on the obverse and large letters in the reverse legend. With a limited mintage of just 7,776 coins, this particular example stands out for its toned original patina and breathtaking eye appeal. The surfaces display a rich blend of deep golden brown, olive green, and steel gray toning, accented by vibrant iridescent hues of blue, magenta, and orange, particularly near the periphery, enhancing its exceptional eye appeal. Toning on the reverse consists of steel gray and slate blue hues, complemented by gold and purple undertones. The strike is well-executed, with moderate yet even wear on high points, indicative of a carefully preserved early dollar. The CAC endorsement further affirms its originality, superior surface preservation, and strong collector appeal. Notably, no other PCGS CAC-approved example in this grade has ever been auctioned. Typical VF25 CAC non-toned for this and similarly rare date recently have sold for around $7,000, a 1797 $1 10X6 VF25 PCGS CAC non-toned sold for $7,875 06/2025 GC. With PCGS Price Guide at $9,500 today, strong CAC bids, this coins' toning, originality and CAC approval, we can't recommend this example enough.
