1796 1C LIBERTY CAP G04 OH ANACS SOAP BOX

Attributed as Sheldon-89, a R.3, This 1796 Liberty Cap Cent, graded G04 by ANACS and housed in an early-generation "Soap Box" holder represents the final year of the iconic Liberty Cap design and features the Type 4 configuration with a denticled border. Certified G04 by ANACS, this piece is a fully original, well-worn survivor that retains all the hallmarks of authenticity prized by early copper specialists. Though no sale records exist in this exact grade for a S-89, except for a NGC G06 for $630 04/21 HA, the only 1796 1C G04 was a NGC that sold for $516 06/25 HA. With a PCGS Price Guide of $675 this coin offers collectors an opportunity to acquire an unadulterated example of a foundational early U.S. issue. The obverse reveals a softened yet still discernible portrait of Liberty, her cap and flowing hair faintly outlined against fields toned in deep charcoal, olive-gray, and gunmetal. The inscription LIBERTY is partially legible, as is the lower portion of the date, both blending gently into the surface under the weight of even, honest circulation. The texture is consistent with naturally aged copper—softly matte with a fine granular feel. On the reverse, the outlines of the wreath and the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are visible with patient inspection. The design elements, while heavily worn, remain true to form, their visibility preserved by the coin’s stable and undisturbed surface.
