1795 $5 BD-14 LARGE EAGLE AU53 PCGS CAC

The 1795 $5 Draped Bust Large Eagle is one of the most sought after gold rarities to the entire Numismatic industry. 

In the modern era especially the past decade, the 1795 $5 Small Eagle has dominated much of the demand of the date; however, historically for the past 200 years in US Numismatic, 1795 $5 Large Eagle has long been known as one of the rarest Half Eagle period. In other words, every major collection had to have one. With a mintage 500 and with only about 55 estimated today in all grades of which only 6 are CAC approved in all grades, Paradime Coins is proud to acquire this uber rarity. This particular example, from the BD-14 die variety a R.6+ is one of only three known die marriages for the 1795 Heraldic Eagle issue. After the unique BD-13, BD-14 is the next rarest with BD-15, a R.5+ the most common.

CAC Price is $171,500 for this BD-14 example whilst a non BD-14 is $156,000. With fewer than 20 examples believed to exist for the BD-14, we see a beautiful die crack on the obverse at 6 and an exquisite die-cud on the reverse. 1795 $5 Large Eagle for the better part of the century was known as the rarity, but because they were so rare and seldom offered in the 19th century, 1795 $5 Small Eagle of which is about 10 times more common with approximately 550 known in all grades, have dominated most collectors demand. It is odd to say a 6 figure rarity is undervalued but this coin absolutely is. The historical significance of the 1795 Heraldic Eagle series, combined with this coin's superb condition and rarity, makes it a true highlight for any collection for the first year of the Large Eagle design. Few auction comps exist, but renewed interest have driven up demand. The most relevant and recent auction comp was 1.5 years ago for an AU58 PCGS CAC for $241,875 01/25 GC.
