With an estimated only 100 1795 50C Recut Date 2 Leaves in all grades, this offering represents an exceptional and technically superior example of the 1795 Recut Date, Two Leaves Flowing Hair Half Dollar, a Guide Book variety long sought by specialists. This coin features sharp strike with even border denticulation. Look at the date, the re-punched date is beautifully visible. The obverse exhibits a commanding blend of cobalt-blue toning across the fields, while warm golden and pale orange accents radiate through Liberty’s portrait, with lighter champagne-silver highlights on the cheek, forehead, and neck providing excellent contrast. The reverse presents a complex tapestry of sea-blue, teal, and violet with golden-amber and honey hues nestled within the wings and wreath, accented by flashes of aqua and faint pink-gold. The luster remains softly satiny beneath the toning, imparting a velvety texture consistent with originality. Population data confirm the rarity of this appearance, with PCGS recording just three graded at this level and CAC approving a single example at this grade with a single finer in MS65! A monster coin that is worth well over approximately $600,000. With no sale record in AU53, however a non-toned CAC AU53 2 leaves that is not the popular recut date with original but no where as eye appealing as this example sold for $26,438 03/25 GC. Considering what this coin presents low survival, high grade CAC, eye appeal, we cant recommend this coin enough. Finding a better representation for this Type we think will be incredibly tough.
