1793 1/2C F12 PCGS CAC

A highly collectible and historically important first-year issue, this 1793 Liberty Cap Half Cent represents the inaugural issue for the denomination. Certified Fine-12 by PCGS and further endorsed by CAC, the coin displays deep golden-brown surfaces with pleasing, even color and notably strong eye appeal for the assigned grade. In fact this coin was previously an OGH with the same certification and grade but when the pedigree of Furnace Run was added unfortunately this was lost. The obverse retains bold central definition with hints of a higher grade, while the reverse wreath and denomination remain surprisingly sharp for the issue. The surfaces are remarkably choice for an early copper issue of this era, showing fewer abrasions and distractions than normally encountered, with a smooth and wholesome appearance under magnification. With a modest original mintage of just 35,334 pieces, the present example is struck from the desirable C-1( High R.3 or R.3+) die pair identifiable by the period after AMERICA in the reverse legend, one of only four die marriages known for the year. Affordable, problem-free Fine-grade survivors with CAC approval are increasingly difficult to locate, particularly examples with this level of originality and visual appeal. The last F12 PCGS CAC example sold was for $12,200 01/26 HA for a different example.
