Pop 2/0 Tied For Finest. The 1893-S Barber Dime offered here is a true condition rarity and visual standout, certified PCGS MS67 with CAC approval, and tied as the finest known example with none graded higher by either PCGS or CAC. One of just two coins to earn this elite grade, it boasts a stunning display of fiery copper-bronze and burnt-orange peripheral toning, blending into rich rose-gold, russet, and violet hues across the obverse. Frosty luster radiates beneath the color, with satiny, virtually flawless surfaces and a strike that delivers strong detail across both the portrait and wreath elements. The obverse offers a delectable melange of pastel pink-gray with tinges of ice-blue at the rims, while the reverse offers a more verdant palette of forest-green, gold, and aqua. Both sides are expectedly free of mentionable distractions, and the bold strike completes the superlative package. With a CAC Value of $50,500 and PCGS Price Guide of $41,500, no doubt this is the finest when compared to the other example which looks molted, dark and is impounded in the Hansen collection. This example combines impeccable eye appeal, originality, and top-of-census status. This example is one of the most desirable Barber Dimes from any mint and a cornerstone opportunity for the advanced collector. This was the first certified MS67 when it was holdered as a OGH in 2007 as a MS67. This example is #1 on Jeff Ambio’s Barber Dime census, with the other MS67 an inferior darker example is locked in the Hansen Collection. This is one of Paradime Coins' top three favorite coins from The Jett Collection.
Per Joe O'Connor: "...The Blay 1893-S, arguably the finest of the issue, exhibits strong satiny luster under moderate toning which is attractive although a little streaky, dominated by orange, rose and blue, with yellowish green about the reverse rim. The strike is incredible, with every fine detail in bold relief. This 1893-S was the first of its issue to be certified by PCGS as MS67, and it remained the only PCGS MS67 until at least mid-2016 ... While both coins share the same grade from PCGS and both are included in the CAC Census, a side-by-side comparison favors the Blay specimen as the clear better of the two."
