Morgan Dollar
1885-P NGC MS64 DPL Old Fatty Holder Deep-Mirror Prooflike Blueberry Toned Morgan. Only the first few coins struck by fresh mint dies were able to possess deep-mirror prooflike surfaces, due to heavy die polishing. Combine that with the already low chance of a Morgan being toned, and you have the extremely rarity of finding a deep-mirror prooflike Morgan which also possesses beautiful color. Indeed, any DMPL toner is a very special piece, and the present example happens to be a full-obverse-coverage blueberry and a 1885-P no less (a date which is less common to find with nice color). DMPL toners are quite unique, in that they typically appear rather deep and unassuming out of the light, but as soon as you pop the coin into direct lighting the colors pop with a factor of 10 from the underlying mirrors. This piece glows with enchanting blue, and a seafoam & burgundy periphery. The reverse has a great cameo contrast, and bold rim toning framing the coin. This piece is housed in an old NGC "Fatty" holder and hails from a fresh longtime collection. A DMPL toner with far less color brought $2,680 in 2021. It also was a more common 81-S, as compared to this 85-P.
