The 1882-CC $10 Liberty Head eagle is one of the great condition rarities from the Carson City Mint’s late gold series, struck to the tiny extent of just 6,764 pieces, and only 275 estimated survivors today, during a period when Nevada gold coinage output had fallen dramatically from the earlier boom years. This CAC-approved AU58 example, pedigreed to the ex Northern California collection offers the visual presence of a borderline Mint State survivor. Both obverse and reverse display rich original golden-orange to red-gold color with glowing satin frost that remains remarkably intact. The surfaces remain notably clean for the grade, with truly no wear that we see. Eye appeal is exceptional and wholly consistent with its high-end CAC status, further reinforced by the fact that only one example is approved finer by CAC. With so few true Uncirculated pieces known, this premium AU58 stands as an important opportunity for the advanced Carson City gold specialist, combining elite provenance, historical significance, and superior originality in a format that is seldom encountered. With MS60 PCGS non-CAC selling for $31,200 11/25 SB, we see this as representing strong value. CAC Price $26,000 but none has sold publicly for 4 years, and only 1 CAC is approved finer.
