1795 Capped Bust Right Eagle 13 Leaves: This first-year Capped Bust Right, Small Eagle $10 Eagle represents one of the most historically important issues in the U.S. gold series, more aptly the Small Eagle. Finding this type is highly sought after; however, finding a CAC example is even more impressive. Struck from the BD-2 die marriage (Taraszka-2, Breen 2-A, HBCC-3170), this variety is immediately identifiable by Liberty’s bust positioned over the tip of the digit 5 in the date, star 11 distant from the Y in LIBERTY, and on the reverse, the eighth leaf of the palm branch nearly touching the U in UNITED. This die marriage is estimated to have produced between 1,500 to 2,332 coins, with approximately 100 survivors in all grades, making it substantially scarcer than BD-1. Certified EF-45 by PCGS and CAC-approved, this coin displays rich originality and superior eye appeal. The surfaces glow with medium yellow-gold and honey-gold coloration, accented by warmer orange-gold highlights in the recesses. Liberty’s cheek, cap, and flowing curls reveal soft satiny luster, while the recessed areas around the stars, letters, and date retain deeper olive-gold shading that enhances design contrast. The reverse with sunlit gold shimmer across the eagle’s wings and wreath tips and deeper golden-olive hues nestled between the devices. Strike definition is well above average for the type, with all stars and central design elements crisply rendered and denticulation complete around both sides from a well-centered strike. Light high-point wear and scattered, trivial handling marks show to what we believe an undergraded coin. This should be an AU coin or at the very least, this represents an extremely choice coin. As a first-year issue of America’s largest gold denomination, the 1795 Eagle carries tremendous historical importance. This CAC-approved EF-45 ranks among the most attractive survivors and would serve as a cornerstone in an advanced type set or specialized early gold cabinet. According to the CAC Price Guide, this issue carries a valuation of $90,000. Overall this coin is perfect, and at first sight this coin looks like an AU53 coin with abundant of luster.
