The 1923-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar was struck during a transitional period in U.S. silver coinage, when production of half dollars was largely suspended, making this the only issue produced by any mint between 1921 and 1927. This CAC-approved MS-65 example represents an important San Francisco issue, offering a stone cold GEM in an older PCGS Holder. The obverse and reverse displays Liberty in bold, flowing detail with satiny surfaces that radiate vibrant cartwheel luster. The strike is notably sharp for the issue, with finer definition visible in Liberty’s gown and the sun’s rays along the lower obverse. Overall eye appeal is exceptional for the grade. Comparing this to other 65+ PCGS CAC like the ex Betty's Walker 01/26 HA $34,160, we clearly see the difference and how superior this is. In fact no other GEM or finer has sold in over 4 years, making this an important acquisition. We would compare this example to the ex Sounder example when it sold most recently 5 years ago for $30,376 11/21 GC. With a CAC population of 10 with 5 finer, this example stands among the best-preserved representatives of the date.
