Rich Orange-Gold Surfaces, Vibrant Satiny Luster, and Impressive Strike Definition.

The Philadelphia Mint struck just 152,000 Saint-Gaudens double eagles in 1915, one of the lower mintages of the series. Unlike many contemporary double eagles that were exported and preserved overseas, a significant number of 1915 twenties entered domestic circulation, contributing to the issue's relatively high proportion of circulated survivors. With an estimated 10,333 examples surviving today, the date is particularly challenging in Gem condition and becomes increasingly rare in higher grades.

This attractive Choice Mint State example displays rich yellow-gold surfaces enlivened by warm orange-gold highlights and vibrant, satiny mint luster. The obverse exhibits pleasing brilliance across Liberty and the surrounding fields, while the reverse displays strong luster that accentuates the eagle's intricate plumage and radiating sun rays. The strike is impressively sharp, with well-defined details throughout both sides. Scattered contact marks are consistent with the assigned grade and do little to diminish the coin's attractive overall appearance.

An appealing representative of this lower-mintage Philadelphia issue, combining rich original-looking color, strong luster, and excellent strike definition. Its modest mintage and increasing scarcity in Gem condition make the 1915 a desirable acquisition for collectors assembling a high-quality Saint-Gaudens double eagle collection.
