1869 2C MS64+ RD PCGS CAC

Pop 1. Conditionally Elusive Plus-Grade Gem with Fiery Mint Red Color, CAC Approval and Superb Type-Set Appeal.

PCGS POP 1 & CAC POP 1. This wonderfully original 1869 two-cent piece retains the vivid color that makes high-grade examples of the issue so desirable. Satiny copper-red luster covers both sides, with warm bronze-gold accents lending depth to the obverse shield and the reverse wreath. The strike is bold: the shield’s vertical lines, the ribbon bearing IN GOD WE TRUST, and the leaves surrounding 2 CENTS are clearly defined. Its consistent color and pleasing surfaces give this Plus-graded, CAC-approved coin exceptional aesthetic appeal. While the date is moderately available in circulated grades, examples retaining full Red color are much harder to find, particularly at the upper end of Mint State. The supplied survival estimate is approximately 200 in Red and in comparison to their Brown and RB makes these RD examples clearly undervalued. In fact even in MS65 RD the numbers are undervalued. MS65 RD PCGS CAC last sold for $4,560 04/25 SB against $3,000 PCGS Price Guide.
